CANTON — The Canton Parks and Trails Committee will host its fifth annual plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 25 and 26 at the Canton Heritage Park.

Jolene Adley, a member of the Parks and Trails Committee with her husband, Thomas, said all proceeds from the sale will go toward maintaining Canton Heritage Park, which is across from the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center, and the park’s half-mile walking trail.

“In 2008, two houses were torn down and the property was bought out by the town,” Adley said. “The committee ended up using donated materials and plants from the bought-out properties to make the Canton Heritage Park. We use the money from these plant sales to make sure it remains well kept.”

Adley added that the committee, which consists of seven members, has done a lot of work to make sure the park remains well groomed, explaining that the park has become a local endeavor.

“A lot of residents donated plants and materials to make this park a possibility,” Adley said. “We had a local Boy Scout who wanted to receive an Eagle Scout badge. He created a kiosk to put up announcements and ended up receiving his badge. We even used the granite from the foundations of the houses that were torn down to make benches that are set up around the park.”

Among the flowers being offered at the plant sale are irises, day lilies and hostas.

“We have all kinds of perennials to offer,” Adley said, “and we may have seedlings for sale as well.”

Adley said that any plants left from the sale will be taken back to the committee members’ houses, where they will attempt to sell them.
