AUBURN — Two new members have joined the Androscoggin Historical Society board of directors. They are David Chittim, a retired civil engineer, and Karla Leandri Rider, who has been involved in the nonprofit and museum worlds for the past 11 years.
Chittim has been town engineer in Lisbon and city engineer in Rockland; a self-employed land surveyor; and an engineering manager for Rockwell International.
He holds civil engineering degrees from Northeastern and Purdue. Besides volunteering as a mediator, he enjoys reading about Maine history, relaxing in his woodworking shop and renovating a 212-year-old home in Lewiston.
Rider has been involved in a variety of small institutions, including those engaged in historic preservation, art, history and animal welfare. She has most recently worked for the Kennebec Historical Society in Augusta and the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.
She also has worked for Museum L-A, Bates College Museum of Art and Maine Preservation. She is a candidate for a master’s degree in New England studies at the University of Southern Maine.
