RUMFORD — A Candidates Night for five people seeking two selectmen’s seats will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

Former selectman and town moderator Kevin Saisi will host the event, which will be videotaped and telecast on local access Channel 7 prior to election day.

There are five people running for two three-year terms on the board: incumbent Brad Adley, former Selectman Frank DiConzo, and newcomers Chris Brennick, Lynden Clarke Jr. and Mary McPherson.

“The goal of the night is to help the voting public to understand where each candidate stands on issues,” Saisi said Tuesday morning.

The event opens with a greeting and introduction of candidates. Each candidate will be asked to express their reason for running for the board.

A question period will follow with a number of questions placed in a bowl and randomly selected for each candidate until everyone has had a chance to answer an equal number of them, Saisi said.

“There will be no debate, nor rebuttal; and personal attacks are not allowed,” he said.

The questions are not being disclosed prior to the event, but they will pertain to general government, town guiding documents/procedures, economic development, and the town’s fiscal position, Saisi said.

After all questions have been asked, each candidate will be given the opportunity to make a two-minute closing statement.

In other municipal election news, Linda French is seeking re-election to the Board of Assessors.

But one seat on the RSU 10 board is up for grabs to a write-in candidate — if there are any — because no one took out papers to run for the three-year term.

Polls for the annual town election will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the American Legion Hall on upper Congress Street.
