Deanna Morris of Mt. Vernon, daughter of John and Patricia Morris, is valedictorian.  She has participated in cross-country running, track and  the alpine ski team for 3 years and was ski captain her freshman and sophomore years and is a member of the Maine select team competing in the Eastern High School finals.  She joined the nordic team and the band her senior year.  She is an active member of the National Honor Society and Student Senate. During her sophomore year Deanna participated in the German American Partnership Program, a school sponsored 3 week exchange.  As one of 200 Congress-Bundestag national scholarship recipients in the U.S. her junior year was spent studying for 10 months in Germany through the AFS program.  She also received a scholarship to participate in the Maine Wilderness Leadership Program through the Friends of Baxter.  She plans on attending a liberal arts college and continuing her language studies.

 

Rosie Ditre, of Manchester, is the daughter of Dyan Dyttmer and Joesph Ditre and sister of Maggie Ditre. Rosie has been involved in all play and musical productions at Maranacook as an actor, dancer and choreographer. She is a first chair clarinetist this year, and has participated in the concert band for the past four years as well as a district level honors band for two. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Senate, and is currently the Director of Tutoring. For twelve years, Rosie has been dancing with the Kennebec Dance Centre, and has been a member of the Encore Company for the past four. In addition to recitals and local performances, Rosie has competed with Encore in the New York City Dance Alliance twice, where they won multiple awards. She has received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the Phi Beta Kappa Certificate of Recognition, and is a National Merit Commended Student as well as salutatorian. She is still undecided about colleges.

In alphabetical order:

Miranda Bouthot, daughter of Keith Bouthot and Angel Bouthot of Mount Vernon. Miranda has been awarded the academic letter two years in a row and became part of the National Technical Honors Society. She is still undecided about colleges, but her top school choices are KVCC and CMCC. She plans to go to college to continue studying Early Childhood, and to later open her own daycare.

Kelsey Broad is the daughter of Michael and Lori (Dumont) McGillicuddy of Manchester and Keith Broad of Gardiner. Kelsey is a volunteer to children and elderly programs. She earned a C.N.A. license from C.A.T.C. last year, graduating top of the class. Kelsey is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, Student Senate, and was also a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program (HOBY) Ambassador. She has received multiple awards for her excellence in academics along with the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit for achievement of excellence in math and science. Kelsey will attend UMaine, Orono or Husson University, majoring in Nursing.

Adam Brooks, of Wayne, is son of Kevin and Dawn Brooks. Adam is a member of the National Honor Society. He was on the golf, basketball, and baseball teams. He received KVAC All-Academic honors for golf and basketball. He is participating in a French exchange this spring. He and a friend created an intramural sports program for their senior project. He is undecided about colleges, but intends to major in Sports Management and get his coaching certification.

Caroline Colan of Readfield, is the daughter of Neil and Carrie Colan. Caroline is a three season varsity athlete and captain, participating in cross country running, nordic skiing, and track and field. This year, she was the Kennebec Journal Cross Country Runner of the Year and the Class B Nordic Skiing State Champion. She is president of the National Honor Society as well as an active member of Student Senate. She has also played the tenor saxophone in the concert and jazz bands at Maranacook all four years of high school. Caroline was selected as a delegate to Girls State this past summer. There, she was elected Miss Dirigo and First Outstanding Girl. In addition, she was selected as a Senator to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C where she had the honor of meeting President Obama. Caroline plans to attend a liberal arts college and major in Government and Environmental Studies.

Andrew Lachance, of Manchester, is the son of David and Laurie Lachance and brother to Michael. Andrew is an active member of the National Honor Society and is Treasurer of the Student Senate. He has been a captain of the football, basketball and track and field teams. He was a two time Campbell Football Conference All-Star as well as All-Academic. He is on the Mcdonald’s Maine Basketball All-State Academic team. He has participated in Model United Nations and is an AP Scholar. He will attend Bates College, plans to major in Biochemistry and play football.

Sam Nielsen, of Manchester is the son of Joe and Martha Nielsen. He has been an athlete throughout high school, participating in soccer and track for four years, and nordic skiing for three years. This year he was a captain of the soccer team, which won the conference title, and the nordic team, which came in second in the conference and the state meets. He also has played the Tuba in band for four years and the trombone in jazz band for three. In addition to these activities, Sam joined the theater program this year, and has played a part in the fall play, “You Can’t take it With You”,  and the spring musical, “Bye-Bye Birdie”. He has also been on Student Senate for three years, two of them as head of the Sustainability Committee. In conjunction with this work he has done much work to run the garden that supplies the kitchen with food during the spring. He is also a national merit scholar finalist. He is undecided about college as of yet, but plans to study Engineering or Geology.

Ian Perry, of Wayne, is the son of Dawn Gardner and Robert Perry and brother of Rob Perry. He is a member of the National Honor Society and President of the Student Senate. Ian is an active member of the Maranacook Theater program with multiple lead roles, most notably playing “Schroeder” in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Ian co-captained the Cross Country team in the fall, as well as the Track team in the spring. He was a member of the Chamber Singers, and played percussion in Jazz Band. Ian will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall, and plans to major in Physics. Ashlee Whitelaw

Ashlee Whitelaw, of Readfield, is the daughter of David Whitelaw and Sharon Lough-Whitelaw. She is a scorer on the Maranacook math team and a member of the Maranacook Track and Field’s throwing team. She is also a tutor for the new student tutoring program. In the fall, Ashlee will be attending Northeastern University while enrolled in their PharmD program.
