Robin Allain, a 15-year-old freshman at Edward Little High School in Auburn, rides a bicycle trainer as art teacher Terri Wentzel and Maine Cycling Club President Noel Smith monitor Allain’s power output during the Maine Youth Cycling Club Power Challenge at the school Wednesday. The event is being held this week during the students’ lunch period to kick off the Maine Youth Cycling Club, a group of student cyclists from EL and the surrounding school districts. Wentzel, an art teacher at EL and former bike racer, formed the new club with the help of Maine Cycling Club and Rainbow Bicycle. The youth club will develop its own logo and team clothing. “We will encourage cycling for every level, from relaxing fun to intense, challenging races,” Wentzel said. Visit the Maine Youth Cycling Club’s Facebook page for more information.
