1922 – 2013
FARMINGTON — Elizabeth Batho Nerath, 88, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1922, in Hungary.
She met her husband, William Nerath, at the University of Budapest, and they were married on June 21, 1944. She was displaced by the war and survived the bombing of Dresden. They immigrated to Detroit, Mich. in 1952.
She loved gardening and had an avid interest in geography and history. She was an independent spirit, who would not shy away from any challenge.
She is survived by her son, Gustav Nerath of Royal Oak, Mich; her daughter, Katharine Nerath Shoaps; son-in-law, Keith Shoaps of Wilton; and two grandchildren, Valerie and Eric Shoaps.
She is predeceased by her husband, William, who passed away in 1974 and also by her dearest friend of 60 years, Gizike Rejer.
She will be missed by her family and friends, especially Deborah Harvell, Cathy Briggette and Rita Juhasz.
