Name:
Title: Chief Operator — Wastewater Systems
Utility you work for: Portland Water District
How you got into the industry: By accident! I have an environmental science degree and applied to work for a company that did wastewater flow metering and my career has evolved.
What is most interesting part of your job: Getting to work with a broad range of people, from people in the field, to customers, the DEP, and environmental groups. It’s great educating people on what we do as wastewater professionals — there is a whole world underground that people are fascinated by when you talk to them about everything that goes into the conveyance/treatment process. Wastewater is never boring and going home at the end of the day knowing we are protecting the environment and public health is very fulfilling.
