About 100 feet of ten-inch water main was lowered about two-and-a-half feet yesterday on a section of Center Street by Auburn Water District crews. Supt. L.K. Parker said that when the main originally was installed it apparently followed the contour of the land over a hump with the result that when the new grade was established the water main was up in the sub-grade when the excavation was done by the highway contractor. The main was installed about 1925 or1926 on Center Street above Princeton Avenue. The lowering of the main was accomplished by trenching of either side of it and then lowering it to the new grade with blocking. The lowering was accomplished without springing any of the joints, Parker said.
