WILTON — A local man has been charged with assaulting two police officers, terrorizing a resident in his Weld Road home and refusing to submit to arrest.

The Wilton officers were treated at Franklin Memorial Hospital for bites that broke their skin, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

Joseph Gephart, 19, was treated at the hospital for a bloody nose he got while refusing to submit to arrest, Wilcox said. He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center where he remained Tuesday awaiting a court appearance.

Police were called to a Weld Road home about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when Gephart was reported to be terrorizing a resident. He was holding a table leg, Wilcox said.

Gephart had been released on bail in an incident last week in which a security guard and a nurse at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston were assaulted. According to an affidavit, the guard was also bitten, Wilcox said.

Gephart was arrested by Wilton police in April on two misdemeanor charges of assault involving his caseworker and an officer at the Police Department in the Wilton Public Safety building.
