100 years ago, 1913
That Turner farmers are enjoying a period of unprecedented prosperity is attested by the sales of farm machinery reported by dealers in this section. Within two months, six electric lighting plants have been sold and will be put in as soon as they arrive. These cost from $350 to $400 each. Among other purchases by Turner farmers are seven manure spreaders costing from $100 to $125 each; two right-horsepower gasoline engines; one four-horsepower; three one-horsepower; and one two-and-one-half-horsepower engines; five power sprayer outfits; three sulky plows and four walking plows, as well as other implements.

50 years ago, 1963
A new firm has begun production in the former Continental Mills property in Lewiston. Commonwealth Shoe Co. of Massachusetts, which also has plants in two other Maine communities, is moving equipment into the former textile mill and a small operation is under way. While the firm is expected to employ only a small number of people in getting the operation off the ground, eventual employment may total 200 to 300 persons. This is the first industry to locate in the former mill property.

25 years ago, 1988
Lewiston fire officials say a blaze which destroyed two school buses early Sunday morning is under investigation as potentially suspicious. The fire was at 2 Bartlett St., where Hudson Bus Lines stores its fleet. “There were two buses that were burning, and they were pretty well damaged,“ said Lewiston Fire Capt. Larry Poulin. One was pretty well gutted and the other also had extensive damage.
