FARMINGTON — The Farmington Local Council, part of the Consumer Council System of Maine, will host a conference, “Bridging The Gap,” from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the Fairbanks Meeting House, 508 Fairbanks Road.
The event is a collaboration of law enforcement and mental health consumers working toward building positive relationships and open communication.
The objective of the conference is to have open dialogue about how to improve interactions between mental health consumers experiencing emotional distress and law enforcement personnel.
The keynote speaker will be Oklahoma State Trooper James Lowe and his mother, Gwen Heath of Maine, who is a mental health consumer. A panel discussion is also planned along with time for the community to participate in the discussion and work groups.
The event is open to the public and there will be refreshments and entertainment.
