(Advertisement) REMOVAL OF WASTE. I have signed a contract with the City of Auburn to remove the city’s waste. I shall try to do this in a careful manner and I ask your assistance. Under my contract, no swill will be collected and parties persisting in putting swill in cans will find their waste uncollected. Cans, barrels and boxes will be handled with care and replaced on the walk. Cards will be left at your house. Read them carefully. By doing so, mistakes will be avoided. Joseph Baker

Auburn Mayor Paul F. Brogan said last night a group of Auburn residents have approached him with the idea of developing a recreational area on the Auburn city farm property at some future time if the city council decides to close out farm operations and the current small population of inmates is cared for in some other manner. “The idea of holding onto the property, if the farm is closed, makes sense, even if it is not developed for several years,” he said.

The manager of the Twin Cities airport said Monday he remains optimistic for federal money to expand a runway, despite a federal official’s statement last week that the area’s low unemployment rate has cut chances for funding. The funding proposal submitted by local officials calls for one of the airport’s runways to be lengthened by 1,000 feet to accommodate cargo flights now landing at an overcrowded Portland International Jetport. If federal funds do not become available, the cities may be asked to bond all or part of the project’s cost.
