The contemplation of selling or leasing the Chisholm Park land is incredibly short-sighted. The Rumford Public Library is hardly adequate for the use it gets now. Why sell off the space that could (and should) be used for expansion of one of the strongest public resources in this community?
If the zip-line venture were truly a viable business, it would not be expecting the town to bankroll it with this land deal. Not in my wildest imagination can I believe this business will have any lasting value for the town. It will mar the natural beauty of the land and it will become the town’s problem to clean up when the business fails.
I will be voting against it on Monday, June 3.
