June services, summer hiatus

WEST PARIS – June worship services at the First Universalist Church of West Paris will conclude services until September. All are welcome to attend at 9 a.m. followed by a coffee hour.

The June 2 service on “Why Are You Smiling?” will be led by The Rev. Braestrup, author and mother of six children, who has served as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service since 2001. From her many life experiences she wrote “Marriage and Other Acts of Charity.” Her best seller is “Here If You Need Me.”

During the summer hiatus, The Sumner First Universalist Church, 1148 Main St., West Sumner, offers worship services at 11 a.m. during the months of July and August.

Calvary service; lobster roll change

LEWISTON — The 10:30 a.m. service of the Calvary United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 2, will be led by retired bishop Rev. Cliff Ives.

Ives is taking the place, until August, of the church’s pastor, Rev. Casey Collins. This will be a communion Sunday. All are welcome.

For those who are regulars at the church’s annual lobster roll lunch, note that it has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 20.

Calvary is at 59 Sabattus St. At noon on Sundays there is free storytelling, weather permitting, on the front steps.

Vacation Bible School open

SABATTUS — Vacation Bible School at Community Baptist Church, 9 Main St., is open for all children in grades K-6th.

Children will learn about what it was like in Paul’s day and experience some of the history of Athens in Bible time.

The school will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. June 24-28. On Friday at 11 a.m., all parent/guardians/caretakers are invited to join for a barbecue.
