LEWISTON — A motorcyclist escaped with minor injuries Friday afternoon when his bike collided with another vehicle on outer Main Street.

Police said Stephen Bero, 41, of Monmouth, was limping when rescue crews arrived at about 1 p.m. He was knocked from his 2010 Ducati after it collided with a vehicle in front of L-A Harley-Davidson, police said.

Details about the crash were scarce later Friday evening. Police said it appeared two other vehicles — a Saturn and a Honda pickup truck — were involved in the crash, but it was not clear which vehicle struck Bero’s bike.

Police were still investigating.

Roughly two hours after the wreck was cleaned up, there was another collision — this one a five-car pileup — just down the road near Mollison Way.

No one was hurt in that crash, although one of the drivers complained of chest pains. The wreck slowed traffic for a short time before the vehicles were driven or towed away.

Both Lewiston and Auburn saw an unusually high number of crashes throughout the day as more than a week of rain gave way to summery weather. No serious injuries were reported as cars flipped into ditches, drove into trees or crashed into other vehicles.
