Brackett held off his two-time champion father Tim to claim the 40-lap Pro Late Model tilt, while Martin drove his machine to victory in a caution-free 75-lap battle for the visiting PASS Sportsman division.

Corey Morgan (Outlaw Sportsman); Rob Greenleaf (Mini Stock) and Josh Childs (Street Stock) were also feature winners at the western Maine oval.

“I don’t know who sets the lap distance in these races, but I’m glad it was 75 and not 80 tonight,” Martin said. “If we had to go five more circuits, I think Joe Pastore would be standing here. This is win No. 51 for my car owner; I’m thrilled to give that to him and appreciate all of his support.”

Brackett became the fifth different leader in the Pro Late Model battle when he wheeled around the outside of his father on lap 27. Thom Bell led the first three circuits before Donnie Wentworth drove by on the outside. Adam Polvinen took a brief turn up front before Wentworth recaptured the point. With five cautions slowing the pace, it was difficult for any driver to settle into a rhythm.

The elder Brackett made a valiant effort to overtake his son, yet settled for second, while two-time champion Shawn Martin claimed third. Wentworth’s car faded as the laps wound down yet he held on for fourth, while most recent winner Tommy Stilphen rounded out the top five.

“That was a pretty good battle,” Brackett said. “It took me a while to get up into contention, but the car was fast on the outside groove. My dad is always fast here, and I didn’t want to get into him at all. I knew he’d give me room, and I had enough power to get by cleanly. From there, it was smooth to the end.”

In earlier feature action, Morgan drove around the outside of Josh Toothaker on lap five and pulled away to post his third win of 2013. The driver from Lewiston is running in two divisions again this season, and it doesn’t seem to slow him down in the least. Guy Childs snuck past Auburn’s Kyle Treadwell for second late in the race, while Mike Haynes and Steve Moon completed the top five.

“When we started this season, I really didn’t expect to be this strong so early,” Morgan said. “The car has been hooked up rock-solid almost every time out, which makes it easier to drive. This is a very competitive division, so it’s not a cakewalk by any stretch. I just hope this streak continues all summer.”

Greenleaf notched his victory with a dominant performance. The defending champion from West Bath had his machine dialed in perfectly once again, and was never really challenged. Rookie hot-shoe Justin Larsen started to close the gap at one point but settled for second, while multi-time winner Jimmy Childs finished third. Calvin Rose Jr. stayed glued to Childs’ bumper the entire distance yet settled for fourth, while Ryan Glover rounded out the top five.

“That wasn’t as easy as it looked,” Greenleaf explained in Victory Lane. “The car was pretty good, but I jumped out early and tried to run and hide. These guys can make up ground quickly sometimes, but they couldn’t get near us tonight. We’re having a great start to 2013 and hope to carry this momentum forward.”

Childs prevailed in a wild, caution-plagued affair for the Street Stock warriors. The veteran from Oxford wheeled his machine around the outside of early leader Dan Brown on lap 20 and survived a major melee to secure top honors. Three-time and defending champion Kurt Hewins steadily made his way through traffic from deep in the field to claim second, while Corey Morgan backed up his earlier win with a solid third. Zach Bowie and Tyson Jordan completed the top five.

“I didn’t know if we were ever going to complete that race,” Childs said. “We don’t usually struggle like that in this class, but I know sometimes contact happens which can bring out the yellow flag. I’m just thrilled with the way our car handled, and hope it stays hooked up throughout the summer.”
