DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am wondering what happened to Channel 13 newscaster Giovanna Bechard?

Also, I’d like some information about Don Orsillo, sportscaster for the Red Sox with Jerry Remy, such as is he married, have children, etc.? I know he’s from Rhode Island. Thanks a lot. — Donna, Rumford

ANSWER: According to Wikipedia, Bechard left WGME last September and is now communications director at the Maine Education Association.

Also according to Wikipedia, Orsillo was born in Melrose, Mass., but spent most of his school years in New Hampshire. Don’s family then moved west where he graduated in 1987 from Miraleste High School in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., where he played on the Marauder basketball and baseball teams.

He earned his degree in communications at Northeastern University. While at Northeastern, he interned under Red Sox radio voice Joe Castiglione.

Before doing Major League Baseball games, he worked in the minor leagues announcing Pawtucket Red Sox games on the radio from 1996 to 2000, having previously done games for some of the New York Mets minor league affiliates. Don started with the Pittsfield Mets of the New York–Penn League for the 1991 and 1992 season and then moved up within the organization.

He has been NESN’s play-by-play man since the beginning of the 2001 season.

Wikipedia says he currently lives in Smithfield, R.I., and likes to watch “Mob Wives.” As for his marital status, Sun Spots found conflicting information about whether he is still married (divorced seems more likely), but all agree he has two children. Many celebrities are increasingly reluctant to reveal details of their personal lives and requests for more information about his marital status on Wiki Answers and other online bulletin boards have gone unanswered.
