The Immigration Reform Bill in the U.S. Senate bears the number S. 744. This week I searched for it on the Internet and the first site I came to was one by the Service Employees International Union. It really explained the bill with six main points:

— It will fix our broken immigration and enforcement system;

— It provides a path to citizenship for 11.5 million immigrants;

— It provides for family reunification;

— Those children who were brought here through no fault of their own will have a path to citizenship if they stay in school or serve in the military;

— It will protect workers from employer abuse, as we have seen here at a local egg processing plant, and will jail employers who abuse their undocumented employees; and

— It will improve border security.

It has a chance for passage in the Senate where Democrats and Republicans worked together to develop the bill that will be voted on.

This is by far the greatest nation in the world and what has made it so is the fact that it is a nation of immigrants. As All America Cities of L-A, we need only look at our diversity. That is the fiber that has made this nation strong and continues to make it so as a community.

Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King appear to be supportive. They need to know that the people, too, support the bill and want them to vote in favor.
