DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are writing to ask for help from our wonderful community. We are seeking yarn for our volunteer knitters.

We are in need of four-ply yarn of all colors, in good condition, to support our volunteers who are busy knitting hats, mittens, baby items, and afghans, which in turn are given to the needy of all ages in Androscoggin County. The yarn is donated to SEARCH and given out to our knitters as needed.

Also, we need more volunteers from Androscoggin County to work with our elderly clients who are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship and to help them with their errands. We have one particular senior who is 74 years old and lives in Poland. She would like a volunteer to help her by taking her out for her errands and grocery shopping.

SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched to our elderly clients. They provide two to four hours a week to a senior by making reassurance calls, home visits or by assisting them with transportation for their errands.

If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us! For more information about donating yarn or becoming a volunteer with us, please call our office at 784-0157. Thank you for your donations, and we hope that you will join our program by becoming a volunteer and help make a difference in the life of a senior in your community! With much gratitude. — Wendy Russell, program director, [email protected]  — Wendy Russell, [email protected], 207-784-0157

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for your column; I have enjoyed it for many years. I know that you have answered this question many times before, but I have to ask again for a list of people who cut hair and give perms in people’s homes.

Also, a while back I saw that a group of women from Lisbon went to their transfer station to find Box Tops for Education. I have some I would like to donate to them.

And a while back a local woman woman was arrested for stealing more than a million dollars from T.D. Bank in Auburn. Has she gone to court yet? Did she spend the whole million? Why hasn’t anything else about this been published?

Thank you. — No Name, Auburn

As for the Box Tops for Education, the May 1 story by Daryn Slover you read was about the Parent Teacher Organization at the Lisbon Community School, 33 Mill St., Lisbon, ME 04250.

Lastly, Tasha M. Hilts, 28, of Auburn was charged with theft on Nov. 1. She allegedly posted $1,670,550 of provisional credit to her TD Bank checking account and $9,505 to her TD Bank savings account.

But she didn’t get away with a million dollars. The bank calculated its loss at $14,535.

Hilts was released on $5,000 unsecured bail. According to a Dec. 19 story in the Press Herald, she pleaded guilty to the charges. She was sentenced April 5.

Sun Journal legal reporter Christopher Williams was nice enough to help Sun Spots and looked up the case. Hilts was given a 30-day prison term, must make restitution of $14,534.78 to TD Bank and was expected to be on supervised release for three years after prison, during which time she is barred from possessing a firearm, ammunition, destructive device or any other dangerous weapon, and must cooperate in the collection of DNA as directed by the probation officer.
