TOGUS — Paul A. Babbitt, 81, “The Driver,” of Greene, died Wednesday, May 29, peacefully at the Togus Hospice Unit, after a three-year battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 17, 1932, and raised in Boonton, N.J. He joined the Air Force in 1950 for four years and worked on the flight line. His son, Mark, was born in 1952. Paul moved to Maine in 1974 and belonged to the Leeds Nazarene Church.
He enjoyed stock car racing and flying. He was a man of courage and was always there to lend a helping hand. Paul was employed as a heavy equipment operator and in construction and loved to tackle the most challenging jobs.
He is survived by his wife, Monika; his son, Mark; his stepchildren, Kimberly Moore and Anne Birchuk, and Jeffrey and Christopher Bridges; his brothers, Dave and Tom Babbitt Sr.; his sisters, Edith McFadyen and Betty Snyder; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wives, Betty-Jean Brewer and Nancy T. Tarr Prudell; his stepsons, Raynard and Bill Trudell; his brother, Robert Babbitt; and and his sister, June Crane.
