MEXICO — Selectmen Byron Ouellette and Reggie Arsenault, and former Selectman James McDonald are running for two seats on the board in the June 11 elections.
Arsenault, who serves on the Planning Board, the solid waste board and as vice president of the Med-Care Ambulance board, said he has “enjoyed being a selectman” and feels he has “represented the town well.”
“I’d like to continue as selectman, as there are different things we’re working on right now to improve the town,” he said. “We’re meeting with Rumford right now to see about possibly sharing certain services.”
Ouellette, who served on the town Budget Committee for 15 years, said it was a “tough decision” to rerun, but he felt his job was “still unfinished,” and he’d like to be able to come back to try and help get spending under control.
“It feels sometimes like the job is an uphill battle, since I’m the only one who seems to want to get spending under control,” he said. “I’m hoping that the board can start finding a way to get spending under control.”
Ouellette later laughed and said, “I probably shouldn’t be rerunning, but I guess I’m a sucker for punishment.”
McDonald, who could not be reached for comment late Tuesday, served with the Fire Department for 34 years. He has been an auto mechanic for the state, a Community Recreation Department worker for Rumford and was instrumental in getting a community hockey rink to the area. He also volunteers with the local snowmobile club, the Sportsman’s Cub of Dixfield and the local ATV club.
Voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Town Hall.
