OAKLAND — A couple of well-placed hits, two key errors and a strong pitching performance by Crystal West allowed No. 6 Oxford Hills to skip town with a 5-0 victory over No. 3 Messalonskee in a Western Class A softball quarterfinal Wednesday.
The Vikings mustered six hits, but West was calling the shots from the mound, striking out six batters and allowing only one hit to keep Messalonskee quiet the entire game.
Shannon Fillebrown’s spectacular diving catch in the outfield in the first inning slowed down Messalonskee’s momentum.
Jordyn Winslow was the only repeat hitter with two singles, and teammate Jordyn Sanborn had the only extra base hit, a double, for the Vikings.
The Vikings will host No. 7 Bangor on Saturday.
