LEWISTON — Just Us Entertainers will perform a concert to benefit the Franco-American Heritage Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16.

Just Us is comprised of members of two families spanning three generations, ranging from teenagers to septuagenarians, performing songs that cut across genres and across several decades and even centuries.

The group’s main accompanist, Nel Meservier, said that they’ll be performing an old sea shanty dating back to 1829, then jump ahead 150 years for a song from the 1970s by the Swedish band ABBA.

“Our motto is that if it’s not fun, we don’t do it,” said Meservier, who also performed with the band C’est Si Bon for over 25 years. “Our mission is to keep good music alive, and people know the words to just about every song we do. We don’t do a lot of new stuff.”

Another highlight of the show will be the jazzy classic “Autumn Leaves” sung in both English and the original French – its title in French is “Les feuilles mortes,” which literally translates as “the dead leaves” – first made famous by Yves Montand in 1946. The English version came a year later.

Meservier said materials will include songs they’ve never played in public before. The entire concert program is posted on the Franco Center’s web site on the calendar listing for the show.

The group is certainly no stranger to the venue. They were the first act to perform there in 2000 after the former St. Mary’s Church changed hands and became the Franco Center, a transfer of both ownership and function that saved the structure from demolition.

This concert will be the 30th performance in the group’s history at the Franco Center.

Tickets for the concert, which will be held in the Franco Center’s main performance hall, are $10 and may be purchased at the Franco Center box office between noon and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, online at www.francocenter.org, by phone at 207-689-2000, or at the door prior to the show.
