100 years ago, 1913
The coin gas meters in several tenement houses, pool rooms and at the Goodyear Shoe Repairing Company, 315 Lisbon Street, Lewiston, have been broken open and robbed of quarters. This has been going on for some time but that of the Goodyear Company was discovered about 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon. It was immediately reported to police. Some time ago, the meter in a pool room on Lisbon streets was found bare of coin and the break was reported to the gas company. It was kept quiet, however, hoping that whoever was responsible, professionals or boys, might be caught.

50 years ago, 1963
More than 2,000 persons were served yesterday morning at the annual Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast. The crowd was served pancakes prepared by club members and sat at tables beneath a tent set up in the parking lot at the food town supermarket. Proceeds of the annual affair will be used to aid in equipping a heart catheterization laboratory at Central Maine General Hospital. Serving was scheduled to start at 7 a.m. and serving continued until after noon.

25 years ago, 1988
Auburn city councilors Monday reversed an earlier decision and approved a zone change from rural residential to suburban residential for land off Beech Hill and Martindale roads. The move will allow developers Richard Lecompte and Del Gendron to double the density of housing in their proposed subdivision, raising the number allowed buildings from about 40 to 80.
