1947 – 2013

LEWISTON —  Richard (Dick) Lynn Delaney, 65, longtime resident of Auburn, died on June 7 at d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Marion, Ind., on Nov. 22, 1947, to parents Franklin Gordon Delaney and Irene Eggleston Delaney. The Delaney family moved to Caribou in 1949, where Richard grew up, attended local schools and graduated from Caribou High School in 1965. He attended the University of Maine at Portland-Gorham and graduated with a BS in education in 1969.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the U.S. and Europe. Richard, his wife, the former Carol Ann Patterson of Auburn, and his daughter, Lynn, settled in Auburn after he completed his Navy service. Upon leaving the Navy, he worked at Tri-County Health Services Social Learning Center, Lewiston. Richard found the work he loved at Tri-County, where he helped mentallychallenged adults develop life skills.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Lynn and her husband, Thomas Totman, of Phippsburg; grandsons, Benjamin Linkenbach of Florida and Thomas Nelson Totman of Phippsburg; his brother, David and wife, Carol Delaney, of Rockport, Mass.; niece, Jessica and husband, Brock Fay, and their son, Logan, of Reading, Mass.; nephew, Brennan Delaney of Woburn, Mass.; and cousin, Barbara Balcom of Peabody, Mass.

He was predeceased by two infant sons, Sean Michael and Scott Patrick; and his parents, Franklin and Irene Delaney.
