LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Real L. Roux was celebrated with the Rev. Marc Caron officiating Monday morning at Holy Family Church.
At the beginning of Mass, Father Caron greeted Real’s family at the back of the church, where Real’s nieces, Joyce Gavitt and Nancy Simard, placed the white burial pall on Real’s casket, signifying his Baptism into a new spritual life with God.
During the Mass, Real’s niece’s husband, Stan Gavitt, read a scripture reading and also recited the prayer of the faithful. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Real’s grandnieces, Emma and Haley Poitras.
Following a procession to St. Peter’s Cemetery, Father Caron recited committal prayers, followed by words of remembrance by Real’s niece, Joyce Gavitt. Prior to the conclusion of services, the United States Army Honor Detail then played taps and presented our country’s flag to Real’s niece, Joyce Gavitt, in recognition of her uncle’s service to his country during World War II. Joyce in turn then presented her uncle’s flag to Real’s grandnephew, David Gavitt. Following military honors, all were invited to a reception of fellowship at the Chick-A-Dee Restaurant in Lewiston.
The pallbearers were David and Stan Gavitt, Marc Poitras, Carl Delekto, Sterling Douglas, and Calvin Bowie. Arrangements by Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home, Lewiston.
