1923 – 2013
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Roger Joseph Pelletier, 90, passed away Friday, June 7. He was born on May 18, 1923, in Lewiston, to Cyprien Pelletier and Marie Albert Pelletier. He was the last surviving son of six boys.
Roger served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in the offices of Gen. Douglas MacArthur. He received several medals and ribbons, achieving the rank of tech sergeant. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Gloria, in Brisbane, Australia. They were married in Brisbane on Sept. 14, 1944, and shared over 68 years of wonderful marriage.
He and his wife were the proprietors of Fashion Dry Cleaners in Galesburg, Ill. for many years and moved to Jacksonville after retiring. He enjoyed a good cigar, a game of cribbage, the Wheel and Jeopardy, and sports of all kinds, especially Red Sox baseball, and traveling. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Parish-Riverside. His biggest love was family and he reminded them every day that his family was the greatest blessing of his life.
Roger is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria L. Pelletier, of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Suzanne P. Murphy (Kevin) of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Michael J. Pelletier (Sue) of Madison, Wis.; grandsons, Roger C. Murphy and Edward C. Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Anna T. Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-grandson, Isaiah Nalos; great-granddaughter, Isabella Nalos of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
