AUGUSTA — The American Legion of the State of Maine will hold their annual state convention June 14-16 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Led by State Commander Kenneth Bouchard of Jay, a good representation of members from across the state including Legionnaires, Auxiliary ladies, Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Riders will be in attendance.
The program will start at noon on Friday, with a grand opening ceremony. Friday and Saturday will feature awards to individuals for achievement in their particular field, such as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician of the Year, Educators of the Year, Legionnaire of the Year and more.
Gov. Paul LePage, Sen. Susan Collins and Reps. Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree will address the group. Maine State President Justin Alfond and Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap are also scheduled to appear along with other local dignitaries including Brigadier General James Campbell and Mayor Stokes of Augusta. National guest will be the leading candidate for National Commander of The American Legion, Daniel Dellinger from Virginia speaking on Saturday.
There will be many awards and presentations for and from Maine Special Olympics, Maine Blind Camp, Beal’s House and more.
The program on Saturday will conclude with the election and installation of the new State officers.
