1941 – 2013
LEWISTON— Gary J. Chicoine 72, a resident of Sabattus Street, died unexpectedly early Friday morning at his residence.
He was born in Auburn, in January 1941, the son of Lionel and Helen (Taylor) Chicoine Sr.
Gary grew up in Augusta, attending St. Mary’s School, and was a 1959 graduate of Cony High School. He then met the love of his life, the former Maureen Rousseau, whom he married May 26, 1962, and they raised their family together in Lewiston.
He was employed most of his life as a regional general manager of the former Rix Pharmacy Stores and Downeast Pharmacy Stores for many years. He later purchased the Bowdoin Town Store in Bowdoin, which he owned and operated up until the time of his passing.
Gary was most proud of his family and his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Being an avid sports fan, Gary had a “Man Cave” built for sharing sports moments with his beloved four son-in-laws, as well as for family and friends. He loved spending time at the family camp surrounded by family and special friends. He was captain of the Chicoine family pontoon boat, where he shared memories with family and friends that will be cherished, such as being on the water during evening cruises on Cobbosseecontee Lake in Litchfield.
He was passionate about his community and very generous to those in need. He was active with Common Ties, the Bowdoin Community Center, and was a former parish council member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish .
Survivors include his wife, Maureen of Lewiston; four daughters, Pamela Roy and husband, Yves, of Lewiston, Annette Edgington and husband, Brett, of Findlay, Ohio, Christine Bosse and husband, Thomas, of Sabattus; and Brenda Chicoine-Gonya and husband, Rick, of Sabattus; two brothers, Lionel Chicoine Jr. and wife, Joan, of Chelsea and Craig Chicoine and companion, Ruth, ofAuburn.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents; he was predeceased by an infant son, Andrew.
