1935 – 2013
PORTLAND — Rolande A. Purington, 78, of Jay, died unexpectedly early Thursday morning, June 13, at Maine Medical Center.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1935, in Chisholm, a daughter of, Roland and Adrienne (Tardiff) Fournier. She attended grammar school at St. Rose of Lima in Jay and later graduated from Jay High School. She went on to attend the Auburn School of Commerce.
On June 25, 1956, she married Bernard J. “Barney” Purington at St. Rose of Lima. He died on Nov. 6, 2012.
Rolande worked as a young woman at Sanitary Dairy in Chisholm and later at LeClerc’s Store in Livermore Falls, Rosie’s Pizza in Livermore Falls and alongside her husband, scheduling appointments during tax season at his business, Tri Town Area Business Service. She also was an Avon salesperson for over 30 years.
Rolande was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima and belonged to the Daughters of Isabella.
She enjoyed going out dancing, playing Pinochle and ‘63’ card games, knitting various articles of clothing for family and friends, gardening, eagle keepsakes, playing Atari video games when it was popular, bowling and especially spending summers at Pine Grove Campground in Canton.
Rolande is survived by her daughter, Kathy Purington of Farmington; her sons, Ron Purington of Jay, Jim Purington and his wife, Barbara, of Livermore Falls, Roland Purington of Jay, Jeff Purington of Jay, Ken Purington of Farmington and Chris Purington and his wife, Tasha, of Waipahu, Hawaii; 12 grandchildren, Cassandra, Jayde, Nathan, Morgan, Cassandra Lefsky, William, Leanne, Ashley, Megan, Lisa, Emily and John; one great granddaughter, Camdyn; siblings, Jeannine Chick and her husband, Arthur, of Ariz., Claudette Jackson and her husband, Chester, of Minot, Lorraine Boucher of Florida and Paul Fournier and his wife, Rena, of N.J.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband.
