LEWISTON — The St. Vincent de Paul Society of the Prince of Peace Parish awarded four scholarships to area students who are attending college in the fall. The recipients are Daniel Fortier, Madeline Blaisdell, Jordan Charest and Johanna Moore.

Daniel Fortier attended Lewiston High School where he participated in Future Business Leaders of American, AVEC gifted and talented math and science, Pep Band, basketball, Key Club and student council. He volunteered at Androscoggin Hospice House and worked at church bean suppers for the Knights of Columbus. Daniel will be entering University of Maine at Orono to major in mechanical engineering.

Madeline Blaisdell attended the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone. She was a member of the Key Club, student senate and prom committee. She was also a tutor of English as a Second Language for students from China attending MSSM. She volunteered at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing, the Limestone Recreation Department and is certified in CPR and as a Red Cross lifeguard. She will major in science at Villanova.

Jordan Charest attended Saint Dominic Academy. His extra curricular activities included soccer, hockey, baseball and track. Jordan also participated with other Saint Dominic students in the Mission to Mississippi to work with the poor in that state. He volunteered at Central Maine Medical Center for four years. Jordan will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to study aeronautical engineering.

Johanna Moody attended Poland Regional High School. She was sophomore class president, served on the civil rights team, the judiciary board, the Premier Soccer Team and had the lead in the high school musical. Johanna volunteered at the Good Shepherd Food-Bank and was a campaign worker for Colleen Quint’s Senate campaign and Angus King’s U.S. Senate campaign. She will study politics and government at Bowdoin College.
