SOUTH PARIS — Dennis Bumpus of South Paris died Tuesday, June 11.
He was born Jan. 22, 1950, the son of Clarence Bumpus and Zoe Bumpus Woodworth. Dennis, who was better known as “Dino” or “Bump,” was a graduate of Oxford Hills High School, Class of 1965.
At the age of 15 years old, Dennis got his first job working as a parttime dish washer at Shaner’s Family Restaurant, formerly Goodwin’s. Although this was Dennis’ first job, it ended up being his forever job. Dennis’ kind nature and friendly personality made him greatly respected and loved by his fellow employees and customers.
Through Dennis’ work at Shaner’s, he was able to carry on the family legacy his mother and father had set forth, working together at Shaner’s/Goodwin’s. Dennis’ mother was a waitress and his father worked in the dairy in the early 1950s. Dennis and his mother worked side by side for many years. Shaner’s Restaurant is honored and grateful to call Dennis a member of its family.
Dennis was an avid sports fan and his knowledge for sports trivia was unrivaled. If he didn’t have the answer when you asked, he always had it the next day. He equally enjoyed the history of the Norway/South Paris area and loved to talk about it.
Dennis is survived by his mother, Zoe, who resides at Market Square Healthcare Center in South Paris.
Dennis will be dearly missed by customers both past and present, his fellow employees and particularly by Jack and Diane Shaner, who have known him for more than 40 years.
