100 years ago, 1913
Frightened by the breaking of the front axle, a horse driven by Fern Gilsen, Sabatis, broke from the wagon, spilling the occupants and the shafts and a wheel dragging dashed up Main street thru the mill employees who were going home to supper. The 5:20 Waterville trolley car was just passing, which added to the fright of the horse. As the horse turned the corner, a collision with two small children who were playing in the street was narrowly averted. The animal ran several rods before it was stopped. Mrs. Gilsen was in the wagon and was thrown to the ground with Mr. Gilsen. A severe shaking-up and the injury to the wagon comprised the damage.

50 years ago, 1963
An additional shipment of Civil Defense shelter supplies for federally approved shelters in Auburn has arrived in the city. The supplies will be placed at two underground fallout shelters at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport (approved for 100 persons), and at the R.I. Mitchell Co. building (approved for 65 persons). The supplies include water, sanitary supplies, first aid kits and medical and food supplies. Radiac equipment, for determining the amount of radioactivity in the area, is also being shipped to Auburn.

25 years ago, 1988
Edward Little High School Guidance Secretary Dorothy Larue was the guest of honor at a retirement party Tuesday night at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. Highlights of the event included skits and dances by co-workers and a slide show of candid photographs. She is retiring after 26 years as a support educator in the Lewiston and Auburn school systems. For the past 11 years she has worked in the ELHS Guidance Department.
