LEWISTON — Pastime slowly pried loose Andy Valley’s 6-0 lead and eventually escaped with a narrow 7-6 victory in an American Legion baseball game Tuesday.
Pastime was down 6-0 when it began to whittle away at Andy Valley’s lead beginning in the third inning when Corbin Hyde smacked a one-run double.
Ryan Riordan belted a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning to tie the game for Pastime (2-0).
In the bottom of the ninth, Hyde walked, moved to third base on a sacrifice and an errant throw, and came home with the winning run on a balk.
Nick Perreault had two of Pastime’s nine hits. For Andy Valley (0-1), Peyton Kennison had two hits and scored two runs, catcher Brandon Hodges had two hits and Dustin Damon doubled.
Windham 5, Tri-Town 2
POLAND — Spencer Hodge got the win on the mound and Shawn Francoeur doubled as Windham held on to a 5-2 victory over Tri-Town in an American Legion baseball opener Tuesday.
Tri-Town held a 1-0 lead for two innings before Windham slipped away over the next four innings. Each team had four hits, but Tri-Town made three errors.
Bessey Motors 4, NAL 0
SOUTH PARIS — Mike Magelas struck out seven batters and gave up only three hits as Bessey Motors dismissed New Auburn Legion with a 4-0 shutout in an American Legion baseball opener Tuesday.
Bessey capitalized on four errors and erupted with three runs in the the fourth inning. Dalton Rice smacked an RBI single in the first inning to give Bessey a 1-0 lead.
