RANGELEY — Town Manager Tim Kane has submitted a letter advising the Board of Selectmen that he will be stepping down from his position.

He has accepted a school superintendent position in Washington County; his last day of work in Rangeley will be July 19.

“My wife and I talked about it, we discussed it, prayed about it and we feel this is the way to go,” Kane said Tuesday. “My background is in education, and I’m excited to be going back to it.” He added that the new position will allow him to finish his doctorate in educational leadership.

In a prepared statement, Kane wrote, “I am very thankful to all of you. This has been an exceptional experience to be able to be the town manager in Rangeley. Rangeley, Oquossoc, and this region is a very special place.”

Kane thanked Board of Selectmen Chairman Gary Shaffer and the two remaining members from his hiring, Donnie Nuttall and Nate Nichols, for their support.

“The Town of Rangeley and the village of Oquossoc should rest assured that they are in great hands,” Kane said. “These three board members work tirelessly in looking out for the best interests of our town.”

The town has a great staff, Kane’s said. “This group of individuals works so hard, many times above and beyond their scheduled hours and job descriptions, to see that the needs of the town are met. They do not get enough thanks or appreciation for all the hard work they put in. They truly are a special group.”
