The art forms created by the Djarma and Fulani in Nigeria, West Africa, are reflected in Beck’s series “Keyandi” of oil paintings on wood, combined with drawings in oil and with graphite on paper. Colors, shapes and textures are integrated in fluid and grid-like compositions and portrait the rituals and traditions within the social structure of Nigerian culture.

The title of Warren’s exhibition is “Waste Management.” Resurrection, transformation and the fascination with objects form the basis of his work. He takes trash such as discarded computers, typewriter keys, corks and plastic toys, and transforms them into brilliantly colored treasures. Overwhelmed by the vast amount of repulsive detritus that encrusts the urban environment, he finds the only way to deal with it is to use it as building blocks and create a multitude of compositions, such as boats, towers and his famous cities of dreams.

There will be a reception for the artists from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, July 13. For more information, visit www.stadlergallery.com.
