TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education has announced the following July classes including many fun camps for the kiddos during the week of July 8. Early registration is recommended.
Kids Art Camp: Fun and easy drawing with oil pastels and mixed media, this class is for ages 5-8. Bring an art shirt/smock. All other materials will be provided. At the end of the week, children will take their box of pastels home.
Camp Improv 2013: Take risks, think fast and get laughs. Learn how improv comedy works. Dan Ryder has studied at Improv Boston, Upright Citizens Brigade and Camprov and is a member of the Teachers Lounge Mafia. For ages 10-16. The week ends with a showcase on Friday night.
Leavitt Youth Soccer Camp: Boys and girls ages 5-12 will improve their soccer skills through drills and games with the LAHS girls’ soccer team. Campers need to bring a water bottle and soccer ball.
Tiny Tot Tumbling: An introduction to basic mat skills in a structured and fun environment for ages 3-5. Stretching, flexibility, strength and control will be emphasized. Warm-up activities, following instructions, taking turns, safety and fun will be the focus of the class.
Tumbling – Beginner to Advanced: This class is for cheerleaders, acrobats, gymnasts and others wishing to enhance their coordination, strength, flexibility and balance. Students will also improve and refine their tumbling skills.
Dog Obedience: Learn how to train your dog to be well mannered and obedient. Topics include understanding and communicating with your dog, basic obedience commands, leash walking and behavior modification.
Watercraft Safety: Participation in this State of Maine course will teach you how to properly operate and maintain a boat. Passing a final exam is required and you must attend both classes to receive your certificate. This class is required for 16- to 18-year-olds to operate a personal watercraft and is accepted by most states for inland waters boating operation.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Try this breath-powered movement class that incorporates elements of tai chi, dance yoga and Shiva Rea’s vinyasa flow yoga. Experience increased flexibility, clarity of mind and deep relaxation. Modifications made for those with physical limitations.
“Backyard” Welding: This is an introduction to welding equipment. Safety, welder operation, fabrication and bending techniques will be covered. This class is not designed for anyone hoping to obtain work in the welding world. It is designed to help those who would like to be able to do minor welding in their own garages. Students need steel-toe shoes and safety glasses.
Zumba Fitness: Have a blast while burning calories. This class is for everyone; even if you have two left feet, it’s easy to follow and fun. Modification will be provided so you can work at your own pace. Drop in is also available at $8 a class.
Couch to 5K: Join this eight-week running program for adults and children ages 8 and up. Each week you will meet and go over the fundamentals of running. Start with a walk/run that will lead up to a full 5K run by week eight. Bring water and wear sneakers.
