Joachim Belanger of 440 Sabatis Street, Lewiston had his pocket picked Saturday morning on Lisbon Street and a pocket book containing $100 taken. That morning Mr. Belanger, who is an elderly man, came down street and went to the Androscoggin Savings Bank where he drew the sum of one hundred dollars from his account. From the bank he passed down the street to a clothing store where he purchased a straw hat. He crossed the street to another store and left without making a purchase. Starting back across the street he put his hand in his pocket and he discovered the pocket book was missing. Under questioning, the elderly man recalled that while purchasing the hat a man came into the store and passed to the rear. Detective Max Beaulieu says that while it is possible that Mr. Belanger lost the money from his pocket, he feels sure it is a case of pocket picking.
