WILTON — Wilton Fish and Game Assoc. will hold the first Androscoggin River Two Dam Fishing Derby on the Androscoggin River on Saturday, June 29.
President Phil Maurais said, “What a wonderful opportunity for families to get to experience the local river.” The event will take place between the two dams.
Registration of $5 per youth, 15 years and under, will begin between 6 and 7 a.m. at the boat launch by the Mill Street Café, 1 Mill St., Jay. The event will conclude at 3:30 p.m.
Funds earned from the event will be used for further youth programs. This boat launch is for carry-in boats such as canoes, kayaks and small aluminum boats. Remember your life jackets.
Prizes will be awarded for youth 15 years and under with the heaviest fish. First place will pay $100, second place will pay $75 and third place will paying $50.
Members of the fish and game club will be on the river to assist the youth with weighing of their catch. If local residents would like to have a tour of the event there will be opportunities available for a ride on the river. Check in at the registration site.
Mill Street Café will offer a light lunch for the fishing derby participants.
