1923 – 2013

LEWISTON — Therese L. Ouellette, 89, a resident of the Maison Marcotte, died Thursday, June 20, at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, following a long illness with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 23, 1923, the daughter of Auguste and Rose Anna (Tardif) Lagace.

She attended Holy Cross School, graduating in 1938 and later at the age of forty, she achieved her high school diploma and became a CNA, an occupation that reflected her remarkable caregiving — not just with her family, but with those that she cared for while working in area nursing homes.

Terri was a fun person who loved to cook, especially peanut butter fudge, which she made not just for family, but in later years, for doctors, nurses and close friends. More recently, her neighbors fondly referred to her as “The Fudge Lady.”

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne P. Ouellette of Lewiston, and Marie Louise Sinclair of Fort Kent; one sister, Lucille Martin of Bristol, Conn.; one sister-in-law, Freda Fisher of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman in 1987; her only son, Thomas, in 1993; and a daughter, Jacqueline Boone, in 2005; and her eight siblings.

The family wishes to thank all of Terri’s caregivers at Auburn Residential, d’Youville Pavilion, and Androscoggin Home Care for the wonderful care she received during her illness.
