TURNER — John Parker and Brady Larson each went the distance on the hill for Brunswick, allowing a total of eight Andy Valley hits in a 3-1 and 9-3 Zone 3 American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep Saturday.

Brunswick (2-2) scored one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to take command in the opener. Zach Lavoie had two hits for Brunswick, and Adam Casey had a two-run single.

Tyler Hutchinson, Corey Cunliffe and Adam Volkernick accounted for three Andy Valley singles against Parker.

Parker was one of four Brunswick players to knock two hits in the nightcap. Larson, Charlie Lowell and Parker Wild also were repeat hitters.

Jonah Williams, who pitched well in a losing case for Andy Valley (0-4) in the opener, had a double and a single against Larson.

Brunswick scored four runs off Hutchinson in the first inning.

Windham stays unbeaten

TOPSHAM — Nate Boyle smacked an RBI base hit in the bottom of the fifth inning to plate Dennis Meehan to lift Windham to a 3-2 win in game 2 of its doubleheader against Highland Green on Saturday and complete a two-game sweep in Zone 3 American Legion baseball action.

A squeeze play in the first inning keyed a two-run burst for Windham (5-0). Highland Green, which draws primarily from Mt. Ararat High School, scored two in the fourth to knot the game before Boyle’s hit in the fifth.

Meehan was the winning pitcher for Windham, and Boyle picked up the save. Ellison Etner had a pair of hits for Highland Green.

In Game 1, Boyle plated a pair of runs on fielder’s choice plays, one each in the second and fifth innings, and catcher Spencer Hodge had an RBI single in the sixth to help Windhame to a 5-3 win.

Hodge also had a double for Windham. Sean Francoeur registered the win on the mound and Boyle the save.

Torrey Charnock took the loss for Highland Green. On offense, Charnock and Etner belted doubles. Etner’s double in the sixth plated a pair of runs to keep the game tight.
