SOUTH PARIS — Pauline L. (Smith) Baird, 87, of Oxford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 19, at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris with her daughters and beloved great-granddaughter, Wyllow and Wynter, by her side.
She was born April 2, 1926, in Norway, the daughter of Joseph and Madeline Crooker.
Polly was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Family was always her focus.
She was a talented and amazing seamstress. Over the years, she sold many beautiful creations in local craft shows.
After retiring from work at Stewarts Cannery, she loved traveling to Florida with her husband, Dick, where they had a winter home until his death in 2002. She was remarried to James Baird in 2006 and became a member of the Grace Baptist Church. When she could no longer live independently, she moved to Oxford, where she was then taken care of by her loving daughters, Janet and Ginny.
She is survived by her husband, James Baird of Norway; brother, Robert Crooker of Cary Plantation; sister, Janet Nickerson of Raleigh, N.C.; daughters, Virginia Smith and Janet Smith of Oxford; sons, Richard E. Smith of Norway, Bruce Morey of Virginia, and Arthur Morey of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; grandchildren, Joel Smith of South Paris, Bo Smith, Joseph Morey of Norway, Shane Morey of Minot, Kyle Morey of Turner, Sharon Morey-Corr of Washington, and Michelle Morey of Tampa, Fla.; 13 great-grandchilden; one great-great grandchild; and a very special daughter-in-law, Bernadette Twitchell.
She was predeceased by her first husband of 60 years, Richard “Dick” Smith; son, Reginald Morey; and a grandson, Jesse Morey.
