PORTLAND (AP) — Developers are scaling back an ambitious project at a former industrial site on Thompson’s Point in Portland.

The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/146MkVL) that the new plan approved last week by city staff delays the start of construction of a new sports arena. It scraps a concert hall in favor of an additional office building.

Developers of the $100 million project also recently reduced planned office space by about 113,000 feet.

A partner at the development company, Forefront Partners I, said the changes are for the better and maintain the plan’s original components, including a sports medicine lab. Chris Thompson said the changes also preserve an historic building and will put the arena at a better spot.

Thompson said the company was being responsive to one of its largest users.
