I am a great-grandmother who has a suggestion for restaurant owners that is worth thinking over.

A group of eight family members and a child went out to a restaurant on Mother’s Day. First, a salad was served to all the adults, while the child sat in his chair watching everyone eat; he had nothing in front of him. After the main course was ready and, again, served to the eight adults, the child still had nothing to eat.

After his mother told him for the 16th time that his food was coming, the child was hungry and frustrated to the point that he didn’t want to stay in his chair anymore. Try to cut a steak with a 3-year-old climbing over you.

The mom tried to comfort the boy but, no deal. She had to stop eating and work on trying to make the boy eat his food.

My suggestion is simply: Feed the children first. The mother can feed the young one while waiting for her food. When it comes, the child will be full and content and enjoy playing with his toys.

Children come first, always. When my daughter has a family reunion, there is a table set for the children and they are fed before the adults sit to eat.

Poor, mom; her day was spoiled. She had to bring her food home in a doggy bag and eat it the next day when the celebration was over.
