I would like to thank Rep. Michael Beaulieu of Auburn, Rep. Eleanor Espling of New Gloucester and all of the other Republicans and Democrats who stood up for kids by voting for LD 1181.

That is a bill that will help parents keep children safe by requiring the largest food manufacturers to report their use of BPA in their cans and jars.

The bill is not passed into law yet, there is more work to do, and it will need to get approval from Gov. LePage.

I was shocked to learn about all the ways that the current Maine Department of Environmental Protection has blocked protections from toxic chemicals in the interest of former corporate lobbying clients.

I hope that this bill, with bipartisan vote in the House and wide-spread public support, shows that Maine can rise above special corporate interests and protect the children.

I hope LD 1181 passes in the Legislature and is sent to the governor’s desk.
