MONMOUTH — Dusty R. Federico, 61, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at his home on Wednesday, June 26, in the arms of his soul-mate, Gail Thurston.
He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 9, 1951, one of five children to Roy Federico and Lorraine Poretta. He was educated in Lewiston schools. In 1973, he married Virginia Camire and from that union came their only child, Tobey. Dusty was a devoted dad to Tobey and a loving grandfather to his only grandchild, Brooklyn, within whom he instilled his love for the outdoors and encouraged her to work hard and do her very best in everything that she loves.
Dusty worked for many years in the Laborers’ Local 327, working on projects such as Maine Yankee, the Northern Pipeline and other various mills. Additionally, Dusty’s love for construction led to start of his own business, Fedco Remodeling, during which time he built his own home and his son’s home in Monmouth. Dusty was also an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman, which became his “full-time job” upon his retirement.
Dusty is survived by his son, Tobey and companion, Erica Beaule; only granddaughter, Brooklyn Federico; brother, David “Rocky” Federico and his wife, Jackie; sisters, Linda Federico, Diane Nadeau and fiance, Ed O’Donnell and Brenda Markee and her husband, Chris; his soul-mate, Gail Thurston and her five children, Eric Parent and his wife, Andrea, Charles Parent, Heidi Sawyer and fiance, Carl Levesque, Laura Parent and Daniel Lavallee; grandchildren of Gail, Shawna, Josh, Ashley and Austin; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Roy Federico; and his mother, Lorraine Poretta.
