RANGELEY — As part of its ongoing firearms education for the public, the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsman’s Association will host an NRA basic pistol shooting course on Saturday, July 20.

The course will teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely, Kevin Sinnett, association vice president, said in a Thursday news report.

The course includes classroom and live-fire range time, learning to shoot revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, pistol cleaning and maintenance.

The course is open to all individuals over the age of 18. Children 14 and older may attend, if accompanied by a parent. No prior knowledge is required.The instructor will provide all materials, firearms and ammunition.

Sinnett said the course will provide the necessary education to obtain a Maine concealed-carry permit.

The course is limited to 12 students and the cost is $85 per person. The course will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the association clubhouse on Old Skiway Road in Oquossoc and conclude at 5 p.m.
