HARTFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Monday night agreed to have Constable Chuck Merritt issue citations for illegal parking at the town beach.
People are using a a cul-de-sac for parking, which is illegal because it blocks the dry hydrant. Only people with Hartford stickers should be using the beach and others will be cited.
If citing violators does not work, the town is looking for a towing company to remove vehicles.
It was also reported that vandals have burned all the picnic tables on the beach.
In other business, RSU 10 board member Shawn White encouraged people to attend the school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, to review the new budget. White said directors already cut $1.5 million from the budget that was voted down.
“If the state sent their percentage to the schools, everything might not be OK, but it would be better,” White said. “Hartford should not think of leaving the RSU because Buckfield will find out they can’t do it and they have already spent money, which Hartford shouldn’t spend,” he said. “Maybe the next figures on the budget will be better,” he said.
Road Commissioner Jeremy Johnson reported that damage from heavy rain has been slight but he had replaced some gravel and unclogged some culverts. He is thinking of a major project on Gurney HIll Road from the salt shed to Route 219 for 2014.
Johnson said he had a lot of culverts to replace and planned on using plastic ones because it moves the water through faster. He is also patching some potholes.
Selectmen reviewed two permits for a garage on Route 140 and a storage and bunkhouse on Goding Road.
Three members of the Planning Board were present to request a scanner so copies of permits could be emailed to the members for review before their meetings. The board approved the expenditure and Planning Board member Deborah Harris agreed to make the purchase and help install it in the office.
