After her husband’s retirement, she enjoyed wintering in Florida, where she enjoyed the sea, sand and sunshine with her husband, family and many friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and experiencing different places, often visiting family and friends along the way. She enjoyed movies, art, dancing, shopping and storytelling.

She was very involved with supporting agencies that benefited the homeless. She regularly participated in donations to St. Martin de Porres Residence for Homeless Men and Women.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Brig. Gen. Richard “Dick” D. Sylvain, USA (retired); a son, Richard “Rick” D. Sylvain Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, from Owego, N.Y.; two daughters, Sandra A. Russo and her husband, Ronald, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Capt. Tina L. Ortiz, USN (retired) and her husband, Lt.Col.
