PARIS —  Four Bessey Motors pitchers combined to scatter nine hits and allowed just one run in a Zone 3 American Legion doubleheader sweep of Brunswick on Saturday, 4-0 and 6-1.

Ian MacFawn went the distance in a four-hit shutout in the opener. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Nick Attaliades-Ryan had two hits, including a two-run single in the second to put Bessey in front for good.

Jordan Croteau also had two hits for Bessey, while Jason Carter collected a pair of hits for Brunswick. Brad Larson fanned nine and walked two while tossing a complete game for Brunswick but took the loss.

Three pitchers combined to limit Brunswick to just five hits in the second game. Starter Mike Mageles struck out five and walked three in five innings to get the win, while Walter Feeney and Dalton Rice threw the last two innings in relief.

Croteau’s two-run single in the fifth broke a scoreless tie. Ty Martin led Bessey (3-2) with two hits, including a double. Riley Chickering and Attaliades-Ryan also stroked doubles, while Brandon Campbell contributed a pair of hits. Zach Lavoie led Brunswick with two hits.

TURNER — Tyler Schaefer and Nate Pushard combined on a two-hit shutout in the opener and William J. Rogers belted five doubles in the encore Saturday as the New Auburn post swept Andy Valley, 3-0 and 9-3, in Zone 3 American Legion baseball.

The first game stayed scoreless until the fourth inning, when Nate Blais led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored on an error on John Simpson’s bunt.

In the top of the fifth, Brandon Varney walked and Brandon Knapp both walked in front of a Corey Henderson bunt. Drew Lashua drove in both runs with a double.

Payton Kennison and Mitchel Davis allowed only five hits for Andy Valley, with Kennison taking the tough-luck loss.

Rogers (8-2) rolled in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second.

Blais singled and Simpson reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt to open the game. Mickey Lawrence’s two-run single put Rogers on the board. Lawrence advanced on a balk and scored on a Nate Pushard single.

Tyler Blanchard led off the second with a bunt single. Blais later singled with two outs, and Simpson followed with a two-run double.

The lead grew to 8-0 in the fifth with RBIs by Pushard, Henderson and Varney.

Andy Valley (0-10) scored its three runs in the fifth. Adam Volkernick, Jonah Willians and Tyler Hutchinson supplied the RBIs.

Davis had two hits in the second game for Andy Valley. Pushard delivered three for Rogers.

Tri-Town splits with Smith-Tobey

POLAND — Zak Johnson pitched a complete game and had two hits, including a double, to give Tri-Town a 13-6 win over Smith-Tobey of Bath, salvaging a split of Saturday’s Zone 3 American Legion doubleheader.

Smith-Tobey hammered out a 10-3 victory in the opener.

Tri-Town scored at least one run in all six trips to the plate in Game 2, including four in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Smith-Tobey answered with four in the top of the third, but Tri-Town tallied two more to take a 7-6 advantage.

Johnson, Billy Bickford and Ethan Cailler each had two hits in the second contest. Kaleb Bridgham, Tanner Marston and Shawn Murphy joined Johnson with doubles. Lukas Johnson tacked on a triple.

Wade Hunt homered and singled for Smith-Tobey. Liam McDonough also had two hits.

Hunt also belted a round-tripper in the first game. Bridgham had a double and a single among Tri-Town’s six hits.
